  • Introducing the Code of Conduct for Charles River Wheelers

    Dear CRW Members,

    We are excited to announce the upcoming implementation of a Code of Conduct for the Charles River Wheelers bike club. Our goal is to create a positive, safe, and enjoyable environment for all members, which is why we have crafted this Code of Conduct.

    The Code serves to outline the expectations, behavior, and principles that all members should adhere to during club rides and events. By implementing these guidelines, we wish to foster a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among our members.

    In order to ensure that this document accurately reflects our diverse community's values, we want this process to be collaborative. The board has agreed on a preliminary version in July and now we welcome your invaluable input.

    We invite you all to review the draft and provide your comments through August 31st. We will carefully evaluate the feedback gathered during the commentary period and finalize the document accordingly. The final version will be published in September.

    To facilitate member engagement, we are sending members an online poll in which you review and comment on on the proposed Code of Conduct.

    Your opinions matter and will help us uphold CRW's principles while promoting a supportive biking experience for everyone involved. Let's come together as a community and create a Code of Conduct that reflects our shared values while setting the foundation for continued success.

  • CRW Volunteers needed for Cranberry Century

    HELP OUT!

    We are planning on the Cranberry century for Sunday October 15th. The Century commitee is looking for CRW members to help with century. We rely on volunteers to make our centuries a success and appreciate the hard work from our past volunteers. Here are some ways you can help out.

    Volunteer Coordinator- Work with volunteers on assignments and tasks

    Registration - We have a new admin app that makes this real easy now

    Waterstops- Work at one of 3 waterstops

    Distribution - Day before and water delivery to stops- Got a Truck?

    Ride Leaders - Lead a group on one of our routes.

    Sweep - Drive route for our last riders in.

    After Party - College pond party help and clean up

    CRW Storage - Before and After organization and clean up.

  • Bike for the Woods, Sunday August 20th

    The 2023 Bike for the Woods is Sunday August 20, 2023. Come do a great ride and support preserving open space in Stow MA! For more information visit our website!

    Advance registration is $20 per rider over 12, $15 per child, $50 family maximum. Sunday registration is $25/$20, with $50 maximum. To register, print this form and send in with your check before the event, or pay by credit card at one of 2 sites: Active.com or BikeReg.com. If not pre-registered, cash and checks will be accepted at the registration table. Sorry, no debit or credit cards accepted on the day of the ride.

    We’ve created many loops starting in Stow, so everyone can find a ride that suits their ability. The shorter rides are fairly flat and are great for families with kids. The longer courses are more challenging, going over hills in Harvard and more by many local conservation areas.

    • The 5-mile loop is flat and kid-friendly, going on South Acton Road which has a wide shoulder, and back down Red Acre Road. 5 mile route
    • The 14-mile route heads up a sharp hill on Taylor Road then into Harvard. Not for children under 10. 14 mile route
    • The 37-mile route loops north with challenging hills in Stow and Harvard. Not recommended for kids under 12 as it is hilly and requires requires multiple gears. Ride through Stow, Harvard, Littleton, and Acton. You can cut off 10 miles by taking a right at the Lemonade Stand on Foster Street, mile at mile 13. 37 mile route This is the first half of the 64-mile route.
    • Our metric century (64 miles) starts with the hilly 37-mile route and then follows a southern loop. Ride through Stow, Harvard, Littleton, Bolton, Acton, and Hudson. 64 mile route
    The starting line is now at the Center School, 403 Great Road, Stow, MA. Your GPS device may take you to the school’s Great Road entrance. Parking is available in the lot and there are restrooms inside the school. The school has asked us to make sure cleats are not worn in the building, so you will be asked to remove your cleats before entering the school to use the restroom. Registration tables will be set up on the Hartley Rd side of the school.

    On-site registration starts at 8:15am and the ride starts at 9:00am. Snacks and drinks are provided at the start, all donated by local businesses. Plus the lemonade stand in Littleton is back!

    Weather policy: In the event of dangerous weather, the ride will be cancelled. A cancellation notice will be posted on this web site by 6am on the day of the ride.

    The Stow Conservation Trust (SCT), located in Stow, Massachusetts, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. The Trust was founded in 1977 by a small group of concerned citizens who perceived the significance of the town in relation to its greater environment. Our purpose is to assist in and promote the preservation and conservation of land in Stow. We feel our membership provides a rich resource for the town in achieving these goals. Stow Conservation Trust is a 100% volunteer organization.


  • Boston By Bike .... At Night

    For those of you who are night owls the 35th annual Boston By Bike ... At Night  might be for you.    The ride usually runs 35 miles with occasional history/architecture stops between midnight-7 AM.  The group runs around 75 cyclists with some marshals helping out.

  • Bikes Not Bombs - Annual Bike-A-Thon

    Join us for the 36th annual Bike-A-Thon on September 10th, 2023!

    We are thrilled to launch this year’s Bike-A-Thon with five amazing rides to choose from: 10 mile, 35 mile, 50 mile, 63 mile, and 105 mile road routes! Each route will be supported with rest stops, food, and route markings. If riding is not for you, then we have over 120 opportunities to volunteer at the event!

    We're happy to support your questions, but it you want the fastest response, please consider:

    - Contacting ride leader for specific ride details.
    - Seeking advice in Slack.  
    - Utilizing our website search for additional information.
    - Having a CRW member promote your event on our blog.
    - Being mindful that we typically don't promote products.

    You can also ask a question of CRW by sending a question or issue through “Contact Us.”  Go to the CRW Home Page, then to the “About” tab and click on “Contact Us”.  Fill out the form and click on “Submit”. 

    Let us know what you are contacting us about, please be as specific as possible, add examples/files if that will help.  Here are your choices to help us get your request to the correct support volunteer.

    Promotions: for promotional inquiries.

    Event Support: for event issues (e.g., sign-up, creation).

    Tech Support: for technical assistance.

  • Bench for Gardner “Sandy” Gray

    CRW has purchased a memorial bench for Gardner “Sandy” Gray past President of the club from January 2017 through December 2018.  The bench was purchased through donations received by the club in memory of Sandy.  Check out the bench – it is located on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail at mile marker 6.8 between Evans Way and Greenwood Road - just north of the Chelmsford town line and Greenwood Road in Westford.

    Sandy’s wife Deb wrote the following to CRW “Hello Everyone, I was able to see the bench in Chelmsford. It was positively beautiful and in a perfect spot. Sandy would have been so proud of this!  He loved the group and took his responsibility very seriously. Thank you all so much!” Love Deb, Joel, Jon and Jen.



  • Coast to the Cure - Neurofibromatosis (NF)

    Coast to the Cure is being run by NF Northeast, a small, non-profit organization that supports patients, their families and friends, who live with neurofibromatosis.  The Coast to the Cure will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023.  It starts and finishes at Stage Fort Park, Gloucester, MA with rides up and around the North Shore of Massachusetts, lengths of 24, 40, and 66 miles.  Fees include: $25 for registration, $275 minimum fundraising amount, includes NF Northeast cycling jersey, lunch, and ride day experience.   • Rodman Ride for Kids

    The Rodman Ride for Kids is an event that raises funds for youth-focused social service agencies. RFK COMMUNITY ALLIANCE offers various programs that serve families facing complicated challenges. The event will be held on September 23. They are looking for riders to help us raise funds to support our program and build awareness.   • Happy 4th of July

    Happy 4th of July everyone.  


    We have our world famous Lexington Revolutions Ride (okay, famous within the club), annual 4th of July ride, led by our VP of Rides, John O'Dowd.  Joining him as group leaders will be Bob Apsler; Alex Hillman, and Hermin Miranda.  Keep an eye on the website, though, as the weather may be iffy . . .


    Regardless of the weather, enjoy a day with family and eat lots of hot dogs so that I can keep up when I'm back on the bike!
