UPDATE 1: MBTA is banning bikes on the Framingham/Worcester train after 5:00, so no train to start option this year.
Ride Description:
I'm not ready to run 26 miles, but I am ready to bike 26 miles. Let's meet at the Hopkinton Bandstand at the corner of Hayden Rowe and Park St. and ride the marathon route in to Boston. You'll get home in time to take a nap and to get back out to cheer on the runners.
We'll work on timing for those riding out from Boston and Newton to the start line and back in for 52 miles
You'll need lights on your bike. Bright lights in the front and red on the back. It will be dark. It's midnight. The more lights the better. Add on glow sticks, LEDs, disco balls, whatever makes you happy.
It may be possible to take the commuter rail train to the start. That is how the ride started a decade ago. Coming from Boston, the Framingham/Worcester train 537 leaves South Station at 10:55 pm and arrives in Southborough at 11:56 pm. Then it's a short ride, uphill on Cedar St. to Hopkinton. There may be an issue if there are too many bikes on the train. The MBTA has a ban on bikes for the marathon. Call ahead to confirm. Any train ride would have to be before 5:00 when the MBTA starts banning bikes.
