Ride Description:
Improved third iteration of this scenic ride in and around Shirley, MA, once voted America’s Most Historic Small Town by ePodunk.com (really!), and now timed to catch some fall foliage. Both distances include a few roads rarely visited by CRW. New short ride includes nice sections in Groton, Townsend, Lunenburg, Shirley, and return through Devens. Long ride adds Lancaster and new routing through Bolton with return through Harvard. Short ride has 1,500 ft. of climbing. Long ride has 3,000 ft. of climbing.
Ride Start Location:
Nashua River Rail Trail, Ayer Commuter Parking Garage, 3 Groton St., Ayer. Please park and meet at the far end of the garage. Because the start location is a parking garage with limited height, if you have bikes on a roof rack, park in the small commuter lot (12 Park St., Ayer) on the left side of the road before you get to the Dunkin Donuts, then ride the last 1/10th mile to the parking garage on Groton St. No restrooms at the start, but several gas stations and the Dunkin Donuts are nearby.
