Ride Description:

We are skipping most of the hills and shortening the route from this past weekend's well-attended ride from Lexington (thanks to everyone who joined us!). This route winds through Concord out for an 8.5-mile stretch on the wildly scenic Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, then along a cranberry bog and back through Carlisle with a welcoming food/drink/coffee/restroom/relaxation stop at Fern's before returning back through Lexington Center.

The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is, by far, my favorite bikeway in eastern Massachusetts. You can often see birds of prey and other wildlife around the marsh and meadows along the path, which is fast and smooth and is likely to be lightly trafficked at this time of year. You can skip the ride if you really don't like bike paths; but, if you haven't tried it and are open to it, I highly recommend checking out this path.

Ride groups will be self led. Though the forecast currently looks clear and temperatures reasonable (mid/upper-40's F), I will cancel if rain appears likely.

Ride Start Location:

The parking strip between the Lexington Children's Place and the Lexington Community Center (I recommend parking along this strip or in the lot of the Lexington Children's Center (closed on weekends); these lots are accessible via either Marrett Road or Pelham Road.

Ride Leader(s):
