Ride Description:
Some Boston history which may not have made the cut in your high school textbooks:
The Bunker Hill monument gave rise to this country's first rock climbing gym and railroad.
Despite his owning a farm, John Adams preferred eating down the street at the dim sum place.
Explore these and other historical irrelevancies on the dim sum ride.
30 miles starting in "Dahchesta" and biking through Mattapan, Milton, the blue hills, and Quincy. It's a short but hilly route which will build up your appetite. Lunch at the dim sum place (Winsor House) at mile 21.7 should take care of that. We'll take a quick look at what's left of the Quincy quarries (alas!). A new museum of the original quarrying activities, established by the descendants of the owners, will be open. It's pretty impressive for a private undertaking. By urban biking standards this is a pretty tame ride since we'll be using dedicated bike paths and going around the periphery of the city on "parkways"(a road with more than a nominal shoulder but not a breakdown lane).
Pace: I'm a slow rider and the route has several stopping points for gawking purposes. If enough show up, I'll start the riders by pace with the faster riders going first. Of course, if arcane Boston trivia is not your shtick and your culinary adventurism doesn't extend beyond mac & cheese, you can skip the stops and charge on to the finish.
Other stuff: If you're stopping with me at the dim sum place, it's cash only.
